Mike Stoner

Designer | Stonermakes

mikestoner03Working as Stonermakes I specialise in designing and making storage solutions. My practice seeks to combine the sensibilities and skills of an artisan with the benefits available to a designer working primarily with manufacturers.

In addition to this work I pursue various personal projects. Recent work has included working with Goldsmiths College to create furniture that encourages creative synergy between those using it, see some images here; developing a range of space saving transformer furniture for small urban apartments; making a mind chair for Beta Tank that they are using to explore sensory substitution and creating a table for debate with Michelle Gauler and James King.

After graduating from Central Saint Martins in 1994, I set up a showroom in Shoreditch, London. I designed and retailed my own furniture and lighting which I also exhibited at furniture fairs including ICFF, New York and 100% Design, London. Since 2003 I have been based in Kentish Town. My work has ranged from bespoke furniture commissions to complete interiors.

I was born in 1969 and have lived in London since. In my spare time I like to go to the cinema, work on my motorbike and travel.
