There is a website on the work of Maarten de Reus here.
Born in 1961 in the Frysian village of Heerenveen in the north of the Netherlands, Maarten de Reus lived till 1979 in the city of Steenwijk, of which the main quality was it being great to leave behind. His art education was enjoyed at the Academy for Visual Arts in Arnhem, where he graduated in 1986 through the department specialising in public art. In 1989 he moved to Rotterdam, and in 1991 to Amsterdam. After years in typical low light, steep-staired, high rent Amsterdam apartments, he built for himself, together with his architect-brother, an urban villa that was completed in 1999. Since 2000, however, he has lived and worked in the UK, though still commuting to Amsterdam a lot. He joined the 115 collective in 2003.
The work of Maarten de Reus revolves around ‘public spaces’. These public spaces are the streets and squares of cities, the cyberspaces of the internet, large scale infrastructures such as motor highways, information-landscapes, as well as the rhetorical spaces of public discussion. Though living and working in the UK, many projects take place on the Continent. He lectures at various academies, mainly the Rietveld Academy of Amsterdam, but also at the Wimbledon School of Art in London, Leeds University and the Dutch Art Institute in Enschedé.
